Therapy through talking

Often when we are in despair, the people closest to us are the ones we find it the hardest to talk to – perhaps because we don’t want to worry them, or to appear weak.  We may fear that discussing our difficulties with family and friends will cause upset or argument, and that our issues will not be heard properly or fully understood.

There are many problems that can be helped through the counselling process.  The following is not a definitive list, but gives some examples of the many issues that can be explored:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Marriage Guidance & Relationship issues
  • Bereavement
  • Teenage/Adolescent issues (bullying, self-harming, exam stress)
  • Family issues
  • Work related problems (bullying, low self-esteem, being undermined)
  • Health issues
  • Anger Management
  • Sexuality – LGBT related issues

Coaching

This helps people identify and achieve personal and professional goals.

The coaching process uses a range of communication skills - such as targeted restatements, listening, questioning, clarifying etc - to help shift perspectives and thereby discover different approaches to achieve the end goals.

These coaching skills can be used effectively in a wide range of professional and personal areas such as business, health, social, family, political, spiritual, etc.

Mentoring

This process involves communication, with a focus on developing the whole person in the given situation. Techniques include:

  • Accompanying: making a commitment to participate in the learning process, side-by-side.
  • Sowing: This is necessary when a suggestion may not be understood or even acceptable at first, but will make sense and have value to the mentee when the situation requires it.
  • Catalyzing: Sometimes it is necessary to plunge right into change, provoking a different way of thinking, a change in identity or a re-ordering of values.
  • Showing: Making a suggestion understandable and user-friendly.
  • Harvesting: Reaping the rewards of the lessons that have been learned and reflecting back on what has been achieved.

Mentoring can be used in both a personal and business setting and can provide positive support, feedback and advice, on an individual or group basis, to improve personal effectiveness.

For Parents and Carers of Children aged 7 to adolescent

Guided Parent Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Recent research suggest that Parent Guided CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is an effective way of treating childhood anxiety issues. The positive impact that a parent can have in helping their child to overcome their problems is emphasised throughout the sessions and there are a number of advantages to working solely with parents or guardians instead of with the child.

The programme of sessions is designed to help increase parents' confidence and empower them to support their child. Annabel works collaboratively with parents and carers providing them with strategies they can use at home to help their child overcome anxiety.

What's included?

A copy of Helping your Child with Fears and Worries by Professor Cathy Cresswell and Lucy Willetts when you book 6 support sessions.
